About Giclee Prints

When it comes to fine art reproduction technology, Giclee (pronounced "shee-clay") printing is singularly unique and has numerous advantages over other printmaking methods. Painters, museum curators, photographers and collectors value giclee prints as the preferred technology to achieve quality, clarity, trueness of color, tonal renditions and incredible detail. Whether applied on canvas or on the highest quality artist paper, fine art giclee uses microencapsulated pigments that have an archivability for the century to come. Any giclee should be treated as an original piece of artwork and should not be hung in direct sun light.

Giclee Prints on Paper

Preferred by artists since its inception in the 1990's, limited edition giclees are printed on the finest quality artist paper and offer collectors the colors and details as originally drawn by the artist. Every reproduction, using Hahnemuehle 308 paper, has Art Poulin’s signature as it appears on the original. Additionally, each reproduction is individually numbered with the print number and edition size (eg 26/800), and comes with a Certificate of Limitation and Authenticity.

Paper giclees may be purchased ‘unframed’ or ‘matted and framed.’ If unframed, the print is carefully rolled, packaged and mailed as such. If the buyer prefers, the giclee may be purchased framed and mounted under quality plexiglass, in which case, the unique mat and frame combination that was previously chosen by Art Poulin Studios (and listed on the website) for that specific image, will be used. Because of color distortions on terminal screens, the buyer may want to request an exact sample of the mat and frame from our supplier Graphik Dimensions PictureFrames at 1-800-221-0262 prior to purchasing a framed paper giclee.

When viewing the details about a giclee print on paper, the View button next to the framing options will display a sample image of the mat and frame.

Giclee Prints on Canvas

Closely resembling the original in form and appearance, a giclee reproduction on canvas offers an affordable alternative to appreciate the colors and nuances as painted by the artist. These images are truly remarkable and are valued by collectors worldwide. Each giclee canvas is taken from a very small, limited edition and is distinctly separate and independent from any paper edition of the same original painting. Every reproduction is printed on Chromata Matte Canvas and has the artist’s signature as it appears on the original. Additionally, each canvas reproduction is individually numbered with the print number and edition size (eg 32/400), and comes with a Certificate of Limitation and Authenticity.

Canvas giclees may be purchased ‘unframed’ or ‘framed.’ If unframed, the print is carefully rolled, packaged and mailed as such. If the buyer prefers, the canvas giclee may be purchased fully framed. In that case, the unique frame that was previously chosen by Art Poulin Studios (and listed on the website) for that specific image will be used.
